• It's What We Love

At Dixie Seating Company making furniture isn’t just what we do, it’s what we love. The love of the craft is the reason we put so much thought into each product that we design and manufacture. It is why we use quality products, real solid-ash hardwoods and why we are using the same traditional methods of furniture-making that we have used since the 1930s.

In honor of Valentine’s Day, we want to share with you some of our favorite products and why we love them so much. The Dixie Seating Company staff works day in and day out with our stock of North Carolina made products. Just like our customers, their favorite pieces are taken home to be enjoyed by their family and friends for years to come.

Chris Lindle, our Customer Service Representative, says that hands down her favorite is the No. 4 Maiden Series.

“I have the No. 4 Maiden Chairs and Counter stools in my kitchen, which is the busiest room in our home where they get a lot of use.  I have had these chairs for over a year now and I love the fact that they just wipe clean.  I have small children in the home and these chairs have seen their fair share of spills and still look as good as new.”

Chris also loves our kids products :

“I also  have the No. 17ts table set which the children use every day and four of the small chairs that go with the set.  I love the fact that a 200 lb. adult can sit on these small chairs with no problem.  This little solid wood table gets a lot of use at my home. “

Angela Elder from our accounting department says her favorite is our No. 695 Flat Rock Rocking Chair.

“It’s so big and roomy! It feels like it just hugs you when you sit in it.  I can set there for hours just relaxing.”

And Dirk Baker, president of Dixie Seating Company has a nostalgic fondness for  the No. 25 Magnolia Kid’s Rocking Chair.

“The No. 25 child rocker was one of the first three products ever made by Dixie Seating Company. It was once recognized by the Governor of North Carolina as the “original little red rocker” and it was featured in the old S&H green stamp books that my grandmother used to store her stamp collections. I think part of its appeal is that it is built the same way we build our adult rockers—swelled interlocking joint construction and pressure fit assembly. There is nothing more satisfying than to get that phone call or email from a grandparent who received a Dixie Seating Company child rocker as a kid, passed it down to one of their kids and is now purchasing our child rocker for all of their grandkids. It has become a keepsake for generations of families.”

  • Swing Into Fall

Porch swings are not just for the spring and summer...they are great home accessories for the cooler fall months. If you live south of the Mason Dixon line, it is likely that your cooler months aren't that much different from the spring, except with a little more bite in the evening. But, no matter where you live, porch swings make the perfect place to cozy up with a warm cup of apple cider or mulled wine (see recipes below) and enjoy the beautiful colors of the fall season.

Here are some tips to warm up your porch swing this fall:

    - Add some pillows with fall colors like gold, chocolate brown and a deep red

    - Create a little more comfort by adding a padded porch seat and coordinate with your pillow colors

    - Drape fabric or curtains from your porch in a way that frames your swing. This styling will give the effect of an outdoor room.

    - Run ribbons through the holding chain of the swing for a festive fall look

    - Get one of our unfinished porch swings and paint with your own fall inspirations!

  • As Southern as Sweet Tea and Pecan Pie

Enjoy life the Southern way.Dixie Seating Company has been making fine, American seating since 1931. We are located in the heartland of the furniture capital, right smack in the Piedmont of North Carolina. We like to think that rocking chairs are the symbol of hospitality. There really isn't anything like relaxing into a big rocker on the front porch and listening to the world go on around you. In fact, you can find our rockers being used at  welcome centers like the Jim Beam Distillery for just that reason. Since we know a thing or two about Southern hospitality, we thought we would offer up a few tips. If you ever find yourself south of the Mason-Dixon line, these will come in handy.

    When in Doubt, Wave

This might be far fetched for our neighbors up North, but down here, we wave....at everyone. If you pass by someone on the road and they start waving at you, just smile, give a slight nod of the head and then wave back. You might even discover that this can make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. If you like that feeling, repeat the action as often as you want.

    251789_iced_tea     Sip Slowly

We have to move a little more slowly down here, mainly because of the heat. But there is something to be said for taking the time to sit back, relax and reflect on the simplicity of life. So, no matter what your drink of choice (Sweat Tea or Mint Julep), sip slow and enjoy.

        Everything Starts With “The”

If you are looking for directions, make sure you place a “the” in front of whichever establishment you are looking for. For example Walmart becomes “The Walmart” or BP might become “The BP.”

Macaroni and Cheese Is a Vegetable1023239_macaroni

Just go ahead and wrap your mind around this, but it is true. You might find yourself at a restaurant choosing from a selection of side vegetables that include mashed potatoes, hash brown casserole, and this cheesy delight. Down here a salad is an appetizer, not a meal!

There you have it. A few tips on kicking it Southern style. If you ever find yourself down South, stop in! We’ll pour you a glass of sweet tea and shoot the breeze.
